New Theme and the Book Thief
Don’t be alarmed. I got tired of the pinkness. Comments, please?
Now, The Book Thief. I finally finished it. OK I was skipping pages toward the end. It was brilliantly written and with such fine writing it must be hard for an editor to say “hmmm, you could maybe cut that bit…you’ve kinda made that point already.” But what do I know? I found this book extremly moving. I cried at the end. I’ve study Nazi Germany at school and at University and I’ve watched some exceptionally good documentaries about how such a place could come into being and carry on existing for so long. But this is by far the most poignant account of how Nazism gripped a nation and kept hold of it and managed to perpertrate such atrocities. And it is so poignant and so appallingly realistic because it’s seen from a child’s point of view and with all the accepting honesty of a child. Brilliant, just brillaint.
But it is dark, and relentlessly brutal. How on earth does it affect the young people who read it? As an adult I’m well equipped to endure the grim world Zusak describes, but how do younger, less experience-toughened minds deal with the horrific reality it describes?
Do please share your thoughts if you’ve read it.

I like the new layout, and no offense, but I like the old layout better. Just saying.
hey kate,

i miss the summer so much.
i read the book thief. in fact – i just finished it. :]
very very good book.
i enjoyed reading from the different point of view. it was a nice change. and the different figurative language ( wow getting technical here. x] ) was fun to read. ( ha, i’m such a nerd )
i cried at the end too. it was so sad. rudy was my favorite character. :’(
i think i’m going to read it again. because this time it might make a bit more sense. XD cuz now i’ll understand who all the characters are since the events are slightly out of place. x]
i picked it out for a book report and i’m glad i chose it.
those who haven’t read it. READ. NOW. =D
Starflower : Thanks! It did! I really appreciate you visiting my blog!
ANYONE ELSE WHO WANTS TO VISIT MY BLOG I WOULD BE VERY HAPPY IF YOU DID!!! http://silverflake5.wordpress.com/
Crescentmoon: I cried when Runningwind died, and when Greystripe was taken away by Twolegs
Warroirs makes me cry too!
Skyflower: It is a VERY confusing book
I had to re-read alot of stuff in order to understand it, and i’m 17! I’ve never seen the musical, but my best friend has, when she went to London last summer. She loved it
She bought me the books so i could read them! She realized after she got home and started reading the books that they wern’t anything alike. I’ve made her promise to go see that musical again with me sometime, though i doubt it will come to Newfoundland… Maybe it’s playing in Toronto, we sometimes take trips up there!
Dawnstripe: ALOT of graphic romance
The sequal is better about that stuff. It’s called “Son of a Witch”
I’ve read it
I liked it. It was really sad, but I did enjoy it
Glad you did too, Kate.
I like the new theme a lot. I love the Book Theif, it is so good. It is so much better then all the other Holocaust books I read for Hebrew school.
