Don’t be alarmed. I got tired of the pinkness. Comments, please?
Now, The Book Thief. I finally finished it. OK I was skipping pages toward the end. It was brilliantly written and with such fine writing it must be hard for an editor to say “hmmm, you could maybe cut that bit…you’ve kinda made that point already.” But what do I know? I found this book extremly moving. I cried at the end. I’ve study Nazi Germany at school and at University and I’ve watched some exceptionally good documentaries about how such a place could come into being and carry on existing for so long. But this is by far the most poignant account of how Nazism gripped a nation and kept hold of it and managed to perpertrate such atrocities. And it is so poignant and so appallingly realistic because it’s seen from a child’s point of view and with all the accepting honesty of a child. Brilliant, just brillaint.
But it is dark, and relentlessly brutal. How on earth does it affect the young people who read it? As an adult I’m well equipped to endure the grim world Zusak describes, but how do younger, less experience-toughened minds deal with the horrific reality it describes?
Do please share your thoughts if you’ve read it.
It’s here. I’ll try and keep it as updated as I can Gee whiz, I love the internet. Now I must stop playing and get back to work!
I found this photo on Cute Overload
Imagine it’s a scene from Warriors – what would the words be?
(PS Sorry I’ve not been commenting on your comments much. Some days I’m chatty, some days I’m not. I still love reading them )
Vicky just published this on the Facebook Erin Hunter fan page (on the Just Fans tab):
“Big News for UK Warriors Fans! At last I’ll be appearing at a bookstore to sign books and talk about Warriors and Seekers! I’ll be at Waterstone’s in Worcester on Saturday October 24th, from 10am until 4pm (phew, I hope they provide cookies to keep me going). This is my ONLY planned UK appearance, so please come and see me if you can! If enough people pitch up, I’ll be allowed to visit more UK stores, hooray! Vicky x”
Hooray! Go Vicky!
Ok, I’m a day out, but my mother is visiting and, sweetheart that she is, she doesn’t stop talking…that must be where I get my propensity for nattering.
I hope you had a great birthday Crystalflame.
Nothing to report here (except I have a Bad Cold which I’m thoroughly enjoying because it means snuggling on the sofa with cocoa and biccies) Meanwhile let me share another YouTube video with you. (Thank you, once again, for finding it, Josh)
I told you; ParryGripp is genius. Makes me happy.
